DENIZ KURTEL & THE MARCY ALLSTARS
The Way We Live
(WOLF + LAMB)
It’s only 1 year since Deniz’s debut album ‘Music Watching Over Me’ was released on Crosstown Rebels, and I still frequently play tracks from this, most notably ‘The L Word’, I love here uniquely soulful sound and this second album ‘The Way We Live’ really sees her develop as an artist. For those that are unfamiliar with her background, Deniz was born in Izmir in Turkey to parents who were heavily involved in art, she then moved to study in New York. There she met the Wolf + Lamb duo and moved into the infamous Marcy Hotel and quickly immersed herself in the worlds of music and art with her light installations being featured in America and the U.K. On the music front, this second album sees her collaborate with various artists including: Tanner Ross, Pillow Talk, Art Department’s Kenny Glasgow, Soul Clap, Gadi Mizrahi and Voices of Black who constitute the Marcy Allstars, named after the aforementioned hotel and the result is fantastic, the bps are slower and it’s even deeper than before, all the tracks are winners and have intense atmosphere. There is an incredible live tour to accompany this album called ‘Double Exposure’ this goes along with her new LED sculpture ‘The Introsoectacular’ which is not to be missed.
