Masterpiece Created By Andrew Weatherall
(Ministry Of Sound)
This compilation follows previous outings in the series from: Giles Peterson, Francois K and Fabio and Grooverider, so now it’s time for one of the finest DJ’s the U.K has ever produced to take over. Andrew Weatherall is to electronic music what James Brown is to soul. The master of reinvention, the humble godfather and a true leader of our time, this quintessential gentlemen cares so little about following he is light years ahead of the pack. His list of credits are endless, starting with his involvement at legendary club Shoom, the early days with Junior Boys Own Records, his production of now legendary Primal Scream album ‘Sreamadelica’ and remixing the likes of: Bjork, Friendly Fires, My Bloody Valentine, Happy Mondays and many others. Now he digs deep to share his influences from across the ages for the special Masterpiece series, spanning three discs of inspirational treasures. His aim for the mixes was never to exceed 122bpm working through: Proto House, Industrial, rare dubs and slo-mo beats. I have to say this really is a truly amazing mix, right across all 3 C.D’s and great to see so many of his own productions and remixes on there like his amazing mix of Toddla T and Roots Manuva’s ‘Watch Me Dance’ from a few months back, highly recommended and with someone like Weatherall you will undoubtedly find loads of previously undiscovered new musical gems which is what the best compilations have always been about in my opinion. By the way this album includes Craig Bratley’s excellent “Birdshell” track. Craig is busy putting an exclusive mix together for secret life… so watch this space.
